The Group of Seven was formed in 1920 after the death of Tom Thompson. Had Thompson been alive at the time of the founding it would have been called the Group of Eight. These eight artists had been working together along the theme on which the group was formed and so, Tom Thompson is known as a member of "The Group of Seven" The other three artists joined the group in the following years. Hence, there are 11 artists in the Group of Seven
